Delph Side Community Primary School

Inspiring each other to succeed and exceed!

Governors

Jane Whalen (Chair):

Jane is the Chief Executive of a local University's Student Union.   She is someone who is passionate about how life changing students’ unions can be from her own experience.  Her job role gives her a range of knowledge and skills to support the school.  Jane is involved in supporting local politics in the area she lives.  Previously she has been a governor at a school in the Midlands, something she found rewarding.

Lawrence Smye-Rumsby (Vice Chair)

Lawrence has just retired as a headteacher from a West Lancashire School and has been a teacher for 36 years. He is currently studying for an MA at St Mellitus College in Liverpool. His wife Cerys works for CVS West Lancashire and is an 'Old Skemmer', although Lawrence originally grew up in Kent and supports Dover Athletic. Both live in Skelmersdale and worship at St Paul's Parish Church, where Lawrence is a Reader. Both have a strong desire to serve in their local community and Lawrence is seen walking the streets of the town as a Street Pastor. Their three children all live in other parts of the country and world, with their eldest daughter teaching in the Cayman Islands. Lawrence & Cerys have four grandchildren, who attend primary school in London.

Liz Ormerod (Headteacher):

Liz is our Headteacher and is passionate about our Delph Side Community.  She has a variety of teaching experiences in the Blackpool and Chorley areas, but actually lives up in Garstang with her hubby and two children, Charlie (8) and Olive (3).  In her free time she  enjoys nothing more than quality family time.  Liz has an 'open door' policy to her office and is always happy to meet visitors.

Sara Fitzgerald (Co-opted):

Sara has worked at M&S Bank/HSBC for 20 years, fulfilling a variety of roles during that time. Her current role as Conduct Standards Manager is making sure that the business does the right thing for all customers. As a new governor she is looking forward to working with the Delph Side Community utilising her knowledge and skills from the Banking industry. Outside of work she is a very keen golfer and a massive fan of Liverpool FC.

Mark Cunniffe (Local Authority):

Mark has worked in West Lancashire since qualifying as a PE teacher seventeen years ago. For the last ten years he has worked at Glenburn Sports College as Head of PE, Director of Sport and currently as the Acting Deputy Head Teacher.  Throughout this time a prominent part of these roles has been working closely with Delph Side Community Primary School. Outside of work he has a very keen interest in sport especially in Football and Rugby League - a big fan of both Everton and St Helen's!

Anne Kazich (Partnership):

Anne is an assistant curate at the Church of England Fresh Expression Church ‘Oaks’ on the Tanhouse estate and has been since July 2014. Before becoming a Priest, she worked as a GP in a large training practice in Liverpool. Learning and wellbeing, in fact, wholeness, has always been one of her passions, and this starts ideally with children! Throughout her career as a GP as well as during significant lay involvement in church life (before becoming a priest) she has been in touch with children from all sorts of backgrounds and within very diverse circumstances. She is also aunt and godmother to many!

Jonathan Fyne (Staff):

Jonathan is a staff governor and is our Reception teacher.  He is also responsible for managing the Early Years and KS1 as well as all things technical including our Computing curriculum.  He is passionate about his beloved Everton and enjoys nothing more than a trip to Goodison Park as well as the occasional away trip.

Denise Garner (Parent):

Denise is one of our parent governors and is part of the Delph Side family. Denise is a mother of a Year 1 pupil who attends Delph Side and is passionate about supporting the school.
